 New logistics center in Silesia strengthens Schenker's global network - 2005-09-22

Modern facility opened near Katowice - State-of-the-art technology allows fast flow of information and consignments - New terminal will increase operational capabilities (09/21/2005)

Numerous customers and many important representatives from the worlds of politics and industry as well as media attended the opening ceremony of Schenker's new logistics center in Pyskowice, close to Katowice/Silesia, held on September 21, 2005.

"Silesia, as the heart of the Polish industry, is one of the most crucial economic regions in Poland. This new Schenker logistics center will connect all customers with our global network and will increase operational capabilities," said Dr. Thomas Held, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Schenker AG.

The Katowice branch is one of the biggest and most important in Schenker's logistics network in Poland. The new logistics center services domestic and international customers. It is a modern cross-docking facility with total terminal area of 7,000 sqm with 79 transshipment docks on a lot of 111,000 sqm. State-of-the-art technology allows for fast flow of information and consignments with simultaneous reduction of time of goods' stay in the warehouse. The terminal fulfils all security requirements. It is equipped with a digital system of video cameras, fire-fighting alarms and an alarm system. The new facility has a very good road connection both with important Silesian cities as well as Poland's remaining economic regions.

This is very important for us because it is our mission to provide logistics solutions that create added value for customers," said Janusz Górski, President of the Management Board of Schenker in Poland at the opening ceremony in Pyskowice.
